Your thoughts on battle rifles?

People of the hunting section! Many of you appear to have shot/own vintage battle rifles. I personally love them. So, please tell me: What is your favorite battle rifle (1800's - 1946)? I am partial to the 91/30, mostly because i own one.

The Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle Mark III or III* was the absolute finest trench rifle of the Great War and soldiers on to this very day in two of the biggest armies in the world and a host of smaller ones. I own several of them and I also have one of the prototype models, a Mark I * * * Navy rifle built in 1907 and brought up-to-date through two rebuilds. For ROUGH usage, this would HAVE to be my choice. It takes the .303 British cartridge in all of its many varieties, 10 at a time, it is quick and easy to clean and tolerates almost ANY amount of dirt and abuse. It is a super-fast LEE action with an ENFIELD-rifled barrel, on which more en suite.

For PRECISION shooting, there is only one possible choice, also, and that is the Canadian-designed, Canadian-built Mark III ROSS RIFLE. It has ALL the advantages of a true Mauser, uses a fast straight-pull action, has a 7-lug bolt which has been proven to handle 125,000psi in pressure, a long sighting radius, aperture sights and the FINEST sighting system of the period, allied with a trigger system which is better than those found today on most Match rifles. It also proved itself to be the most accurate Service rifle EVER put into the field by anyone, anywhere. It eats exactly the same .303 British ammo as the SMLE above, 5 at a time, but it gives a new meaning to the word 'accurate': I have one here, 98 years old, that still makes 1-hole groups at 100 yards.
The biggest drawback with the Ross is that it is long and heavy and needed to be kept a LITTLE bit clean. It uses a special Ross rifling which is a left-hand version of modified Mauser rifling: superbly accurate, even though a barrel is only good for about 8,000 rounds, using modern powders.

If I had to COMBINE the best of the two, the result would be a Pattern of 1914 rifle (P.-'14), designed in England and made in the USA by Winchester and by Remington in 2 plants from 1915 through to early 1917. It uses a very fast cock-on-closing system on a true Magnum-sized Mauser action with a 26-inch barrel and a well-protected set of high-efficiency aperture battle sights with the longest sighting-plane practically possible on a short-rifle base. It also uses the extremely-long-life Enfield rifling and a barrel can last more than 20,000 shots with modern powders. And it takes exactly the same .303 British ammunition as the rifles above, only handles them 6 at a time.

But if all that were available was .30-'06, then there is only ONE choice possible, and that is the US Rifle, caliber .30", Model of 1917: a .30-'06 copy of the P.-'14 rifle detailed above, made by Winchester and by Remington in two plants. It takes standard .30-'06 ammo and can handle 6 in the mag plus 1 up the pipe, it is rugged and reliable, it has the Enfield-rifled barrel (exactly like the modern '5R' except that it is '5L', being left-handed), same sighting plane and the battle-sight is for 200 yards rather than the silly 547 yards of the Springfield. It is an easier and faster rifle to make than the Springfield and uses standard Mauser breeching, doing away with that silly, finicky cone-breeching. It was the rifle of two-thirds of all US troops in World War One and it was the best overall rifle of the war. They soldiered on until well after World War Two became history and are still on the ranges today, converted into every nasty heavy-game cartridge you can imagine.

So those are MY choices. You, of course, are free to disagree.

This is, after all, a free and open website unless you say something true which is not politically-correct.

Partial Trace

Partial Trace

$92.4

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In linear algebra and functional analysis, the partial trace is a generalization of the trace. Whereas the trace is a scalar valued function on operators, the partial trace is an operatorvalued function. The partial trace has applications in quantum information and decoherence which is relevant for quantum measurement and thereby to the decoherent approaches to interpretations of quantum mechanics, including consistent histories and the relative state interpretation.A state on the composite system is a positive element of the dual of C(X x Y), which by the RieszMarkov theorem corresponds to a regular Borel measure on X x Y. The corresponding reduced state is obtained by projecting the measure to X. Thus the partial trace is the quantum mechanical equivalent of this operation. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A partial word is a string that may contain a number of do not know or do not care symbols i.e. placeholders in the string where the symbol value is not known or not specified. More formally, a partial word is a partial function u: { 0, ldots, n1 } rightarrow A where A is some finite alphabet. If u(k) is not defined for some k in { 0, ldots, n1 } then the unknown element at place k in the string is called a hole. In regular expressions (following the POSIX standard) a hole is represented by the metacharacter .. For example, aab.ab.b is a partial word of length 8 over the alphabet A ={a, b} in which the fourth and seventh characters are holes. Partial Virtualization

Partial Virtualization

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Partial virtualization, in computer science, is a virtualization technique used to implement a certain kind of virtual machine environment: one that provides a partial simulation of the underlying hardware. Most but not all of the hardware features are simulated, yielding virtual machines in which some but not all software can be run without modification. Usually, this means that entire operating systems cannot run in the virtual machine which would be the sign of full virtualization but that many applications can run. Vintage Trouble @ Harvelles 3-1-11 Cash Train (partial)

Can anyone give me a value on a skateboard deck ?

It's a ZORLAC neverstick Metallica deck .. This one has a pirate skull wearing a black and white skull cap,a long knife going through the forehead, this skull also has the lower jaw on it ,grey mustache and partial hair, plus the usual cross bones going through the top of the head..

I surfed through websites with vintage decks, but all I got was other Metallica decks, Jack-in-the-box, a snake, or others ..

Mine is still in excellent shape, never riden, knowing it's going to be a collector's item .

um.....i think i looked at a deck like that in the back of a dudes car a whyle ago....he wanted 200 for it and it had wheel bunr and pressure cracks......so id say (since he odviously had no clue what he was talkin about...i think his mom bought it for him...) in MINT condition (like no termites...humidity warps..that kidna stuff) probably 150 ish...hold onto it for a whyle and itl be worth a pretty penny..specialy if they make a seccond set of them
