Vintage One Wire
mouthpiece of vintage phone won't work at all - please help!?
Hi, I know I've asked this question before, but before I didn't give enough detail to help others out in figuring out what is wrong with my phone 
The brand of phone I have is a vintage "Hollywood" one/push button wired phone. Everything works perfectly except when I speak into it, the other person doesn't hear me at all. I know there is nothing wrong with my phone line/network, because I have another phone like this that works great. I even changed the handset cord to another one which didn't work. I took apart the mouthpiece checked the wires & for dust, and everything looked connected and fine. *Note* that there was a black and red wire connected inside to the mouthpiece. Again, I'm just stumped, I just hope there is a simple solution, and I'm so sorry if someone has read this question before, I'd just really love to use the phone and wouldn't want to put it in a garage sale Thanks in advance!
The mic may just be bad. But if this is a true vintage phone, the mic is probably a carbon type. Take it out of the mouthpiece and give it a couple of good whacks. The carbon in these types of mics is not a solid piece but fine granules. They can clump together and no longer work as they should. When you bang them against something, this loosens the carbon granules and the mic will work again. This isn't guaranteed. Like I said, the mic may just be bad. But I have 'fixed' many mics like this over the years. If this doesn't work, you might be able to find a replacement at used electronics or surplus military place. Goodwill or a place like that may even have some old phones for parts. You may have to replace it with a newer mic if you can't find an old carbon one.

Do you need cheap ideas for gifts?
I know it's getting down to the wire but I am making a booklet of websites and found this one: cheapstingybargains.com. Lots of great deals and coupon codes too.
I made some decoupage items to give as some gifts. I took old enamel pots with lids and decoupaged vintage laundry ads on the sides then attached a vintage scoop (all found at thrift stores). These will hold powdered laundry soap.
It would be great to post your own ideas for those who still need some help with ideas but don't have a lot of money.
