Plastic Mannequin Torso
How do i prepare plastic for painting...?
Ok changed my mind, I'm going to paint a mannequin torso.. (the one that has a hallow back) regularly used to display clothing at stores.
If i'm going to use my airbrush...and acrylic paint... do i really need to sand it? & why?
Can i use a spay can... Plastic primer...to prepare it ? I have a couple to do so i really dont wanna waste time sanding it if i really dont need to... HELP~!
You don't really need to sand it. You can just quickly scuff it with a red 3M pad. Then spray it with a plastic primer. You can get these in spray cans at any hardware store now, and they work pretty well. Otherwise you have to use adhesion promoter. They're pretty expensive, and you can only buy them at automotive painter supply stores. As far as acrylic paint goes, even with the plastic primer, I still wouldn't trust it. Most people seem to think acrylic paint can be used on anything, but for most practical applications, it pretty much sucks. Go to a quality art supply, and buy some enamel, and the proper reducer. You'll be much happier in the long run.
