MANNEQUIN JUMPING
The Right Fit For The Right Place
As a consumer I have to take a moment to express my admiration and gratitude to the women and men who spend so much of their time and energy designing the most creative ideas for stores. I am not referring to any one specific store but to stores in general. This article is not just going to be an ode to marketers and designers, but an instructive piece one how you can improve your store by utilizing the methods I will mention.
I will use one specific product to show the way it was adapted to such a variety of different kinds of stores in way that contributed to their overall design. The product is mannequins. (if you have read any of my other articles you will know that mannequins are me favorite store decoration.)
Let us imagine walking through a mall. We are holding tall fountain sodas, and walking quickly from store to store looking for the best and newest products. First we come upon a toy store. It is brightly lit and is filled with chatting mothers and bouncing children. As we look around we see rows of shelves bursting with toys of every sort in every shape and color, Lego and puzzles, jump ropes and video games. And rite there just as we walk in we see a Lego shaped mannequin. Its shoulders and elbows are jointed with big round Lego like pieces. This simple mannequin fits in so well with the store ambiance that it becomes a contributing part of it.
Now for the sake of brevity we will speed up our walk around the mall and go directly into another store. This time it's an electronic outlet. What is it that we see even before we go into the store itself? A tall larger-than-life mannequin! This one is completely transparent and is wearing a pair of shorts with an over-sized belt. On the bet is a mp3 player with the latest kind of headphones in the market.
We don't even need to go into a clothing store in our imaginary walk around the mall to know the infinite ways mannequins are used to attract customer attention. Truth be told I could spend all day writing about how many ways mannequins are used to bolster business, but this is not an article about mannequins, it's an article which attempts to show how the use of a single product could be put to use is so many different creative ways. The reason why this is insightful (or perhaps inspiring) is because no matter what your line of business is you can and must find a way to remain competitive in the crazy world of competition. By rethinking the way your business should look and be represented, even by using something as simple and ubiquitous as mannequins, you can really make a difference for your growth and popularity.
