Winter Coats - How to Prepare for the Incoming Winter Weather
You might have noticed that the temperature outside is dropping and there's a chill in the air. With winter approaching, it's time to put your summer clothes in the loft and think about your winter wardrobe. But, what are the clothing essentials that will get you through the coldest season? First stop, choose a stylish winter coat to bring all of your outfits together. We've come up with some easy-to-follow rules that will make shopping for your winter coat simple:
Do your research
You may know what style of coat you usually buy, but will it be in fashion this coming winter? Seasonal trends may be short-lived, but, if you're spending a lot of money you'll want to pick a winter coat that looks new and trendy. Browse the shops, see what others are wearing or check online and you'll be in a much better position to pick a winter coat that's both stylish and fashionable.
Choose a style to suit
There are two key ingredients to the style of coat you choose - length and shape. There are a couple of simple rules for picking the right style, based on how tall you are, your body shape and the style of clothes you wear. Pear-shaped women suit A-line coats, hourglass figures suit a belted coat and bigger women look great in the dressing-gown style. Skirt wearers need to ensure the coat's length is either a few inches higher than the bottom of the skirt or a short jacket that ends at the waist. The ideal solution will always be to see what personally suits you best before making a purchase.
Pick a colour
If you like all things red, a bright red coat might work for you. But be careful with such a bold statement as you need to remember that you'll be spending most of your time in it. Make sure a bright coat won't clash with everything else in your wardrobe or you'll find that you won't get enough use out of it. Pick a colour that looks amazing on you and complements your style, don't worry what they're wearing in Paris or Milan - the colour is your choice.
Try it on!
On the mannequin, hanger or model, any coat can look amazing. You need to remember that you're more than likely to be a different height, weight and shape than the model. If you follow the rules for picking a length, shape and colour to suit you, all you've got to do is try it on. You never know how clothes look until you've got them on. It could be a few inches too long, have an unflattering shape or the colour could clash with your hair! Just try it on and ask someone's opinion - it's the easy way to make sure you're picked the perfect winter coat.
Stick to your budget
It may be the most important piece of your winter wardrobe, but you don't want to splash your whole clothing budget on something you only wear for six months a year. You will however want to spend a bit more to get the right coat as you remember how cold our UK winters are! If you do your homework and pick the perfect coat to suit you in every way, you'll be wearing it almost every day. Don't forget, there are plenty of places online to buy cheap designer clothing so don't rush into a purchase only to find it later at half the price!
