Skull 3: Anatomy of the internal cranium (including cranial nerves)
can someone give me an acronym for the following words in the given order?
cranium (skull)
Face
mouth (oral)
chin
axilla (armpit)
brachium (arm)
antecubitis (front of elbow)
antebrachium (forearm)
carpus (wrist)
pollex (thumb)
digits (fingers)
palm
patella (kneecap)
leg
tarsus (ankle)
digits (toes)
hallux (great toe)
can someone make an easy to remember sentence using the first letters of the following words. but for the ones that have a word in parenthesis such as cranium (skull) use only one not both. this is for anatomy. but does anyone know of an easier way to remmber this.
the next one is.....
dorsal
dorsum (back)
oleacranon (back of elbow)
loin (lumbar)
gluteus (buttock)
popliteus (back of knee)
calf (sural)
calcanus (heel of foot)
planta (sole of foot)
the last one is....
cephalon (head)
cervicis (neck)
upper limb
lower limb
i already made one for each these but they are kind of hard to remember
First, you don't mean an "acronym," which is a word or, more loosely, letter group made of the first letters of an expression. Thus MADS stands for Mutually Assured Destruction; IRA is an Individual Retrement Account, and so forth.
You are looking for a MNEMONIC (from the Greek mnemos, "memory"), a memory aid made up of an existing word or, even better, a sentence made of words beginning with the first letter of the words you're trying to remember. HOMES is used for the Great Lakes--Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior. "Every Good Boy Does Fine" stands for the notes to which guitar and violin strings must be tuned. For your last group, "Car Crashes Undermine Laughter" might work. The other groups are so long that you may need two sentences for each; there's no memorable word you can make out of those letter combinations. One problem is that your groups are too scattered--the second one mixes bones and muscles, and arm/leg/foot, and no single group is complete. A mnemonic for a poorly-made list is worthless.
They teach this sort of thing in Med Schools; there's one for the skull bones and one for the bones of the wrist, for instance. Post a note on the Med School bulletin board saying something like "Help! Anatomy student needs some mnemonics to help her remember the human body! Call ______________ at _________ after _______. That should do it. Funny; I got an A in Comparative Anatomy without them, since they didn't require the parts in that specific order
