I have a 85 model Mitsubish Colt. The water pump is leaking from a 10mm open hole in the engine casting?

If you take the engine mount bracket of you can see a 10mm open hole in the engine caseing. Why would there be a hole there a mainly why would it leak water from it. Could it be a stuffed water pump gasket that is causing the water to escape through this hole? If anyone can help please let me know as iam baffled?

10mm hole? That's a pretty big hole for the way it's supposed to work, to me! When your water pump bearing goes out,(or is very nearly on it's way!), this 'weep' hole let's the antifreeze mixture out. You know it's time to get a water pump, and I mean fast! The next thing, is the bearing lock's up, the fan shaft twists off, and sends a projectile of metal thru your radiator,(usually when you're flyin' down the highway, a long way's from home, or it's blizzard condition out! LOL!)

David Dave Fleischer (July 14, 1894 June 25, 1979) was an American animator film director and film producer, best known as a coowner of Fleischer Studios with his older brother Max Fleischer (the father of director Richard Fleischer).
