Village People Mannequins
I own a high-end boutique... why do people look through the windows & laugh, but not come in to shop?
I can't figure this out. My shop is in a very high end area and most people who come in here (the village) to visit know that the stores are expensive.
That being said, I carry brands like Mint Jodi Arnold, See by Chloe, James Jeans, etc... mostly high end contemporary clothing. I have the store arranged cute (I think), but people still just "window shop" and point in at the merchandise. I will look at them and smile, trying to look friendly and inviting, but then they just laugh. What is this?
I cannot figure out why people will look through the windows and door, but won't come in. They'll actually stand at the door, when it's closed (because it's chilly outside) and look at the mannequin by the door and point and laugh.
Why do people do this?
I think a lot of people that visit the kind of shop you have are intimidated. They seem to get the impression that if they come in they are obligated to buy something. Also, I have gone in boutiques such as yours and I felt like the owner, etc was staring a hole thru me. If they really want to buy the things you offer they will come in and buy them. Maybe you tend to think the shop is actually friendlier than it is. A lot of those shops are a bit on the snobby side in my opinion!
