		<description>The City Paper:

The state Democratic Party called “Trooper Bear” “Bryson bear,” referencing leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Sen. Jim Bryson (R-Franklin). The Bryson campaign denies having anything to do with the bear.

The Democrats even threatened the return of the “titular head.” That symbol was a large, Styrofoam head of former Gov. Don Sundquist that the Democratic Party used to hassle Republicans during the 2002 election season.

Democratic Party spokesman Mark Brown said the “Bryson bear” was a “cheap imitation of the old Sundquist head.”

“Frankly, it’s an insult,” Brown said in a candid statement. “Like a great athlete, the Sundquist head went out at the top of his game. But he’s still more than viable.”
