Styrofoam Head
What will bond styrofoam to wood?
I am trying to hang a Styrofoam moose head form on the wall. Here's the problem, I can only modify the back of the moose head. I was thinking about carving out the styrofoam from the back of the moose head, and then adhere a wood backing (same shape) into the space. The moose head is approx. 10 pounds, and is very nose (muzzle) heavy. ANY thoughts, ideas on how to hang this on the wall would be great! Thanks.
Dimensions if needed: Back side of the moose head is roughly an oval shape, approx. 13 x 15 inches.
Gorilla Glue, or even Elmer's construction adhesive could do the job. If the moose head is solid styrofoam (did you carve this yourself?), the surest way to mount it is to
(1) buy or make a wooden plaque large enough to mount the head, and 4-6 wooden dowels,
(2) Drill through the plaque and attach the dowels to the front of the plaque with screws through the plaque and into the dowels;
(3) Drill holes into the back of the moose head large enough for the dowels to fit snugly,
(4) Coat the dowels with glue and insert them into the holes you drilled in the moose head.
What you've done is forced the moose to slip against the glue line in the direction of the dowels, instead of pulling at right angles to the glue line as would happen if you glued moose to plaque directly. Guaranteed, that moose will never escape.
If you hate the plaque, you can always unscrew the screws and fasten the dowels onto a different surface. The dowels themselves though are there for good (though they should be flush with the back of the moose. Ten pounds isn't so heavy, so if you can glue 3" or so of dowel securely into the moose, you may be able to hang it with picture wire from two dowels without the plaque at all. The difficulty here isn't really strength, but that your moose will tend to tilt forward against the wire and look down at the room, leaving a gap between the upper edge of its neck and the wall.

I don't think that this is an appropriate question for the photography section. We know about photography (well, some of us do), not explosives. Perhaps try science and mathematics? On the plus side, thanks for the entertainment. The addition of (fake) in the question is pure comic genius.
