Full-sized body replica? Lifecasting?
If I have made a plaster mold of a human body, what should I fill it with? I would like it to be clear and flexible...should I just go get 100 tubes of silicone?
if you want clear and flexible but solid, you need to use the type of flexible casting material that toy makers use. If you want it hollow, then use rubber mold making material. If you bought 100 tubes of silicone like for use around windows and doors, you have to add so much to get a full size figure that it becomes stiff and inflexible. I use about 7-8 tubes for a head to get a 1/2" thick rubber mold. Also, this would cost you a lot of money. It is about $3-4 a tube even wholesale, and you need to buy the low odor kind which is even more per tube. HOweever, you could make each part separately with the silicone caulk and then use the same material to attach the pieces together - it will still be sort of stiff, not completely flexible. The sensible thing to do is "do your homework" and research with plastic supply houses on getting some of the soft silicone material for casting. Infusion molding is the name I think. You had better enlist a lot of helpers to assist you with this kind of project for a solid cast - this is not a one person job to handle a full body cast, and the material you are filling it with. You need a block and tackle arrangement too. Also check on the ventilation requirements, what kind of container you will need to mix it in, clean up of spillage, etc. Unmolding time, and where you are going to put it to dry completely... a lot of planning. This thing will not be lightweight either..
why not just cast separate parts of the body in something else, and connect them together with another material, say metal chain...to get the flexibility. I am assuming you want to do this for an art class. Talk to your prof about this project.
If this is just for your own use, heck, just go to a sex shop and buy yourself a rubber dolly for about $100. or so
