why did this asian chick get upset w/ me?
my gf is friends w/ a girls from Japan, they were over at my house and she was talking about how she wants a boyfriend, but can't meet a decent guy. i said "well, it can't be that ur ugly because u look like a doll". she got pissed. she said she's sick of ppl saying asians look like mannequins or unreal. WTF? i never said that. is saying someone looks like a doll an insult????
She misunderstood you. Americans (I'm guessing you are) have many expressions that foreigners do not understand - "she's such a doll" means "you're so cute" or "pretty." However, it is an old expression and many women, not only Asians, take offense to it, thinking that people mean you look like a fake plastic doll.
It's an easy fix - just apologize for miscommunication so that there's no tension between the two of you.
