I'm thinking of dying my dark brown hair red; any tips?

I have really dark brown hair, and recently I've been wanting to do a major switch; to either blonde or red. All my friends agree that red would be the best, so I'm pretty psyched to try it out. I generally dye my own hair and I'm pretty good at it (my mom keeps trying to push me towards cosmetology school, ha) but I need some tips this time.

About a year and a half ago, I tried bleaching my hair first, then dying it red- bad idea. Although the dye I picked out was a deep red, I looked as though I stuck my head in a bag of flaming hot cheetos. I definitely don't want to make that mistake again.

If you have any suggestions, tips, or good dyes, please let me know. I'm aiming for the Nicole Kidman-Moulin Rouge red, although maybe not so bright. Thanks so much

Red fades fast, so invest in special shampoo formulated for colored hair. They have ones with red tints to them to help keep your red vibrant. Don't bleach first, and your hair should come out a beautiful rich, red color. Try the feria color line - and don't be afraid of the bright reds. As long as you don't bleach your hair first you should be fine!
