She then inspires him to become the most expressive window-dresser the business has ever seen. Of course, there is intrigue involving a rival department store's attempt to drive the good guys out of business, and together the two store-crossed lovers must combat the forces of evil to save the day. There is no real mystery about what will happen in the course of the film; it all seems color-by-numbers. The only thing unique about Mannequin is its uniquely bad and illogical script, which has holes larger than the Grand Canyon. Mannequin was a surprise box-office hit, earning nearly 25 million dollars in just under a month of its release -- no small feat considering its miniscule budget and seeming lack of appeal to any particular demographic. Upselling Both Overtly And Subliminally
The art of upselling in the both the hospitality and retails sectors is not a new phenomenon, although it has come to increasing prominence over recent years, either because it is more aggressive than it previously was or simply because the consumer has grown more savvy to such sales techniques.
It is common to the point of being expected in the hospitality sector that customers are asked in bars and clubs if the glass of wine they have ordered is to be a large one or their spirit a double. Cafes and coffee shops are keen to suggest cakes, cookies and muffins alongside a latte and restaurants to offer breads, olives and other hors d'ouevres to diners awaiting their main courses, followed by desserts and ‘cheeky' coffees to compliment the perfect meal.
