Cosmetology Practice Mannequin Hand
Could someone please describe the practice tes for the cosmetology licence in Las Vegas.?
Do I have to bring the mannequin hand with the nails already on it or do I have to do it there? Thanks!

State Board Exam Classes for July 09 E-News
Before you can begin working as a successful beauty professional you’ll need to pass your California State Board Exams. Federico Beauty Institute includes exam preparation classes as part of their regular curriculum to give students an opportunity to succeed from the very beginning of their careers.
At the end of both the Cosmetology and Esthetician programs, students spend about a week preparing and practicing for the State Board exams. During this week students are walked through all aspects of the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology exams, including timed exam drills and written practice tests.
Cosmetology instructor Tee Mason explains that for students to gain a real understanding of the exam, they need to participate in this preparation course.
“It is important that students practice their skills using mannequins in the class in front of their educators, where they are evaluated on their performance. This set is as close to the state board testing as possible,” she says.
Federico Beauty Institute wants students to feel confident about their ability to pass these exams. By giving students a comfortable environment with trusted instructors and classmates nearby, Federico helps students focus on successfully completing the content of the exam while almost eliminating the stressful environment that can come along with it.
In addition to offering prep classes, Federico also encourages students to pre-apply for the state exam. Pre-applying allows a student to take the exam only two weeks after graduation, while the information and practice is still fresh in their minds. This opportunity to take the state exams immediately after graduation can give students an edge and help them pass the exam more easily.
If students don’t pre-apply for the exam, or want more practice, they have the opportunity to re-take the Federico preparation class until they feel comfortable enough to successfully complete the exam. Students aren’t pressured to take the state exam after the week of preparation if they don’t feel that they are ready. Federico is dedicated to helping students achieve success, and they encourage nervous students to retake the prep class until they feel totally comfortable, even after graduation.
“Once they have finished the state board class these students are encouraged to bring their model into the school for hands on practice and evaluations, to ensure their comfort and ability to past the test,” Mason explains.
The official state exams consist of two parts. During the practical exam students must complete a variety of services in a set time period while a test administrator watches and grades the performance. All of the services are performed on a model that the student has brought with them to the exam. The second half of the test is a written exam consisting of 100 questions. These questions cover everything from hair care and services to more scientific questions about chemistry or hygiene.

Federico students take the state board prep class as part of their curriculum. Both cosmetology and esthetic students go through the class for about a week. The hours total about a week of prep. The state board prep class includes:

The state board exam prep class can be repeated as many times as necessary to ensure the student is fully ready for the state board exam.
