Clay for Holding things down?

I want to display some action figures, Some of them don't stand up on their own, I don't want to use display bases because they take up to much room, Iv'e seen some action figures on ebay that are displayed with a white substance under their feet to hold them up?, Is this just white molding clay?, I think Iv'e seen this material as a seal on some invitation type envelopes, What EXACTLY is this strange substance???

This is not really a clay but is meant to hold things secure and be removed without damaging most items.

Shoe Watching - Her Kenneth Cole Flip Flops

Is there a cheaper way to plaster my son's hand print than buying a bunch of kits?

I wanted to do one of those hand print plasters for my son's hand or foot for part of the family's Christmas gift this year. I saw some kits at Wal-Mart that are like $8 each and it comes with the plaster, the mold and the stand to display it. I was wondering since I need to do like 5-6 of these if there is a cheaper way to go about it or if those kits would be the best way.

Actually, I just did this with my daughter's print. In the craft section at Wal-Mart, they sell containers of plaster that you can buy for various crafting purposes. I got a whole box of this plaster mix, which is about the same price as the kit and contains enough to do several. Then I just used my own mold. Do you have any of those little silicone containers? Even those cheap tupperware/Glad type containers will work. But learn from my mistake, don't oil it with cooking spray unless you like the mottled oily look on the bottom! As far as the stand, you can glue those little glass blobs on the bottom of your plaster piece like little feet. You could also try plate stands. I'm not sure where or if they sell these at Wal-mart, but Michael's would have them. I only had 3 to do, so I opted for the more expensive option and placed my plaster prints in shadow boxes I purchased from Michaels. But those are $12-$20.

I know it took me a couple of tries, but I came up with the same results as the kit. The hard part is getting the setting time down before trying to do the print, then letting it sit long enough before popping it out of the mold, the longer the better. You'll probably be glad you bought the box of plaster at first till you figure things out.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
