Flyer Half Round
what do i need to make junior high cheerleading?
i have right split, left split, one inch away from my middle split, i can do a back flip with a spotter, a forward hand spring, back walk over, front walk over, running and standing round off, and of course i can do hand stand, head stand, cart wheel (one handed also), and all my jumps i.e half turn, full turn, straddel, tuck ,and pike.
i'm very energetic, if i like something i go for it
also what position could i be if i make it? base, flyer, or something else?, i'm 13, 5 ft 3.5 inches, and 98lbs ,could i make it?
As a former cheerleader in college and a former high school cheerleading coach I can honestly tell you that in my opinion you have a great skill set for making a cheerleading squad. Fexibility will help your jumps, kicks and tumbling, but you might want to focus on more running tumbling, such as a round-off back handspring. You list a lot of jumps, but they all start with a great toe touch, so make sure that is consistent. You sound spirited, but this last quality is hard to judge.
Coaches look for different qualities every year, and so make sure you are also positive, easy to work with, willing to accept a coach's assignments and can get along with the other cheerleaders.
You wonder about where you will be placed within a building group, but I encourage you to learn the specifics of every position. Building groups should be flexible in make up allowing for a greater variety of builds. Being a back can help make you a better flyer, and some flyers are also great bases. In the end, it may depend on the other girls on the squad to see where you work the best. Be accepting of your position regardless, becuase in the end, after all, you are a part of a team.

Okay Im in middle school cheerleading. Our competiton is combined with 7th and 8th grade. Our competition is sauturday. We learned our main cheer that were doing for round one. For round two our stunt we just learned at the last minute. Im a base but I can also fly but since were combining 7th and 8th grade I have to base. In our stunt were climbing into a half then cradling, reloding into a show n go. Yes we have front spots for it to be legal. But when were climbing into a half my base and I are uneven. I have been looking at my other base and the flyer is trying with her hips to make it even. We need to get this down. Please help me! How can I make us even??
while doing a full show n go it's difficult for the flyer to control her hips and make the bases even. instead, you and the other base should hold up your arms and see who is taller. whoever is needs to squat down more while doing the stunt. if you two are the same height, just continue to focus on making eye contact with each other while the flyer is going up and coming back down to help balance the stunt and keep her legs even. good luck and keep practicing!!
