Is it okay to wear sneakers with dress pants?
I have a job orientation later today for a security position at the Air Canada Centre. I don't want to over-dress but I still want to impress so I'm planning on wearing a dress shirt (without a tie) and black dress pants, but I was thinking about wearing all-black sneakers. (Specifically they're black Adidas Superstars). Would this seem inappropriate or would it be alright?
Also, any suggestions on what colour dress shirt I should wear? My options are light purple, light blue, dark blue, light green, white or dark red.
Dress as similarly to the dress code or uniform you will be wearing as possible... you will give the subtle impression of being ready for the job and look most professional.
If the uniform is blue, wear the blue shirt... gray then consider white or gray... green, light green or forest but not true green (too bright)... brown, tan, creme or yellow, etc. Save the red for dating.
Same goes with matching up a tie if you will be wearing one while at work. A tie tack says a lot about a man's sense of professional "finish", so choose wisely.
The shoes should be the ones you will wear on the job... freshly shined/cleaned... if they are new, it is better to get them broken in before having to work long shifts in them.
If black pants are your best option, then certainly match the color of your shoes to them no matter what, but dress shoes are preferred to sport shoes unless you are wearing sport shoes in your new position. They must be clean and properly laced.
Don't forget to match up your socks... an attention to details shows well for a security position.
A hat should not be worn at the orientation even if one will be part of the position's uniform.
Meticulous grooming and an appropriate watch completes your presentation.

What do you wear on your feet with dress pants and pumps?
I'm normally a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl, but need to dress up for a certain occasion. I never wear anything but socks normally.
I tried sheer knee-hi's once, and they were uncomfortable. Is that what most women use, or do you just go barefoot in your dress shoes? Or would something like dress socks be an option? I have black pants and shoes if it matters...
I normally don't wear anything. Stockings make your feet sooooo stinky!
